CEO, Founder

Howard Parkinson

Dr. Howard Parkinson is a Chartered Engineer contributing to global standards in railway safety, software and systems engineering. With over 20 years of international experience, he has held senior roles in signalling, rolling stock, infrastructure, and railway systems, including Systems Assurance Manager and Head of Systems Engineering and Safety. His expertise spans metro, tram, and heavy rail, with a focus on safety, compliance, and reliability.

A Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) and a member of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (MIRSE), Howard holds a doctorate in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Manchester. Alongside consultancy and research, he delivers specialised training in engineering, safety, risk management, European interoperability, and railway legislation.

Chief Technology Officer

Daniel Basher

Dan is the Chief Technology Officer at Digital Transit, overseeing the technical direction of the company’s projects, including Innovate UK-funded initiatives and collaborations with the University of Huddersfield and industry partners.
He plays a key role in shaping the company’s technical strategy and liaising with project stakeholders.With a focus on good systems engineering, he ensures that projects follow industry best practices, supporting development throughout the V-lifecycle.
He has been with Digital Transit for three years and is a graduate engineer from Lancaster University. His interests include machine vision, condition monitoring, and Large Language Models.
In addition, he co-leads the OT Cybersecurity in Rail training course with Digital Transit’s director, Howard Parkinson, delivering expertise on securing operational technology in critical rail infrastructure.

Software Engineer

Regan Bolton

Regan Bolton is a software engineer at DTL. Regan has been working at DTL for 1 year after having graduated from the University of Durham with a first-class honour in Computer Science and a published paper in the area of artificial intelligence. During his time at DTL Regan has also undertaken a part time PhD in the area of Large Language Models (AI) focusing on Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). He has been responsible for:
  • Drafting AI research papers
  • Engaging in active AI research
  • Developing SaaS products
  • Providing AI technical expertise
  • Developing company cloud architecture and related services
  • Presenting conferences and presentations on AI related projects
He is involved in projects:

  • RAPORS
IT Operations, Communications, and Development Manager

Vanessa Vulovic

Vanessa Vulovic is a Project Manager and CRM at DTL. Vanessa has been working at DTL for 4 months. She has undertaken a Code bootcamp and joined the team shortly afterwards. Responsible for various activities to ensure timely deliver of projects, effective team communication, customer relationship management, and website design, alongside many administrative tasks.
Software Engineer

Kathryn Hurst

Kathryn Hurst is a software engineer at DTL, with expertise in PCB design and assembly. Kathryn has been working at DTL since January 2024 after achieving a 2:1 in Computer Science from Lancaster University and passing all six modules of the IPC J-STD-001. Whilst working at DTL, she has been responsible for developing the OLES pantograph monitoring system and the OSAD tram overspeed detection device, along with assisting on various other projects.

Joshua Murray

Joshua Murray is a software engineer at DTL. Josh has been working for DTL for 5 months after graduating from MMU with a 2:1 in Computer Games Development. Whilst working with DTL, his main responsibility have been the development of the REDGE digital twin energy grid project along with assisting on other projects such as CyRail & RAPORS.
